University of Glasgow
Founded in 1451, the University of Glasgow is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world. It is a member of the prestigious Russell Group of leading UK research universities and has an annual research contract income totaling more than £116m. IP Group signed its partnership with Glasgow in 2006.
In 33 subject areas, the majority of research at Glasgow was assessed as being world leading or internationally excellent. This builds significantly on the University’s performance in RAE2001 when four subject areas received a 5* rating.More than 16,500 undergraduates and 5,000 postgraduates, drawn from more than 120 countries across the world, study at the University each year.
Distinguished students include Lord Kelvin, the pre-eminent scientist of the 19th century; John Logie Baird, pioneer of television; economist Adam Smith; authors John Buchan, AJ Cronin, Helen MacInnes and Tobias Smollett; and psychiatrist RD Laing. The University has been associated with seven Nobel laureates.
