University of Southampton
The University of Southampton is one of the top 15 research universities in the UK and has achieved consistently high scores for its teaching and learning activities, receiving more than £80m in research grants and contracts each year. IP Group signed its partnership with Southampton in 2002.
In the most recent national Research Assessment Exercise (2008), the University of Southampton maintained its position as one of the UK’s top research universities. In ten subject categories more than 25% of the research submitted for review by University of Southampton researchers was of the highest level and world-leading in terms of its originality, significance and rigour. In 27 of the 33 categories to which the University submitted research, over 50 per cent of the research submitted was considered of internationally excellent or world-leading quality, making Southampton one of the leading research universities in the country.
Southampton’s record for success in spinning out its research excellence into business ventures has made it one of the leading entrepreneurial universities in the UK. Its research has spawned twelve successful spin-out companies since 2000, three of which have been floated on London’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM) with a combined market capitalisation value of £160m.
