Quitting smoking now easier with commercialization of a pleasant tasting, teeth whitening and degradable nicotine chewing gum
Revolymer® Ltd announces today that Canadian consumers will
be the first to enjoy a new nicotine gum experience with its
revolutionary technology now ready for
commercialisation.
The company has filed for regulatory approval in Canada with the
Natural Health Products Directorate and anticipates go ahead in
2010 with additional markets soon after.
The gum has multiple benefits, namely tasting more like a
confectionery chewing gum by masking the bitterness characteristic
of many commercial nicotine gums as well as having teeth whitening
properties. Like Revolymer’s proprietary confectionery gum,
the nicotine gum is environmentally friendly, being both removable
from many surfaces (reducing the significant problem of gum
littering on streets and pavements) and will also degrade over time
reducing landfill and pollution on sidewalks.
The current market for nicotine chewing gums is estimated at
USD1.6bn world-wide with little innovation in the product over the
last 20 years. Many smokers who try to quit using nicotine gum are
put off by the taste of the existing products and turn to more
expensive alternatives such as nicotine patches and inhalers
instead. The product has been scaled up by a manufacturing partner
at doses of 2 and 4 mg nicotine, and in iced mint, fresh mint and
fresh fruit flavours.
