University of Leeds

The University of Leeds has been a pioneer of intellectual property commercialisation in the UK and was the first UK University to set up a dedicated technology transfer function. In 2002 it became the first university in the UK to outsource its technology commercialisation activities to Techtran, which was acquired by IP Group in January 2005.

The RAE 2008 sees Leeds rank 14th in the UK, (overall grade point average), compared to a quality position of 26th in 2001’s RAE and is one of just two major civic universities to have recorded such a substantial improvement.

The University of Leeds’s reputation for leading research spans the physical and life science disciplines. Amongst its centres of excellence are Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Computer Sciences, Earth Sciences, Civil Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Food Science and Physics.
