University of Southampton
The University of Southampton is one of the UK's top 10 research universities and is internationally recognised for its pioneering work in many areas, including engineering sciences, law, medicine, oceanography and physical sciences. IP Group signed a partnership with the University of Southampton in March 2002.
In the most recent national Research Assessment Exercise (2001), the University achieved the highest grades possible of 5/5* in 24 of its 34 subject areas – making Southampton one of the UK’s leading universities.
The University’s overall annual income is more than £300 million (November 2004) while Southampton’s overall research income from external sources and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) reached £111 million during 2003/04. In 2003, Southampton was ranked ninth among UK universities for HEFCE Quality Research funding.
