| Description: | Photopharmica was formed to develop light sensitive drugs for
indications including oncology and infection. The company's
technology uses small molecules that are activated by light, called
photosensitisers, to kill diseased tissue or unwanted bacteria, an
approach known as photodynamic therapy (PDT). The technology can also be used for disease detection and imaging techniques. The IP stemmed from the Centre of Photobiology and Photodynamic Therapy, which is the largest of its kind and has received several million pounds research investment over more than a decade. The company currently has products in clinical trials. Techtran acquired an economic interest in Photopharmica as a result of its agreement with the University of Leeds. |
