Oxford Nanopore Technologies

Oxford Nanopore Technologies is developing the GridION system, a new generation of technology for direct, electronic analysis of single molecules including DNA, RNA, proteins and other molecules. IP Group has supported the company’s growth since its creation in 2005, providing seed capital, supporting further financing rounds, assisting with key contracts and building its Board. Oxford Nanopore has raised £75m to date.

Modern Water

IP Group established Modern Water in 2006, combining water technologies from a number of sources including the University of Surrey. The company owns, installs and operates world-leading desalination technology and develops and supplies advanced systems for water monitoring. Modern Water, which was floated on AIM in 2006, won the contract for the world's first commercial desalination plant using forward osmosis in Oman and is also achieving volume sales of its water toxicity monitoring systems.

Green Chemicals

Green Chemicals was spun out of the University of Leeds with the aim of developing "cleaner, greener, safer" solutions for a range of applications. The company has licensed its hair colouration and colour removal technology to Urban Retreats, which operates hair & beauty spas in Harrods and Harvey Nichols, and has licensed its wash-durable flame retardant fabric treatments to Clariant.

Revolymer

Revolymer, best known for its Rev7 removable, degradable chewing gum, was the first company under IP Group’s partnership agreement with the University of Bristol. IP Group has supported Revolymer through 4 funding rounds, which have raised over £18m, has provided board-level support and has helped recruit key senior executives into the business. Revolymer has now launched its REV7 chewing gum in the US.

Xeros

Xeros is developing a new ultra-low water clothes cleaning process. Using polymer beads, Xeros can clean clothes using up to 90% less water, at lower temperatures and using less detergent. A spin-out from the University of Leeds, Xeros was in the 50 best inventions of 2010 by TIME magazine, was awarded ‘Best Technological Breakthrough’ at the first Climate Week Awards and was named in the WWF’s 2010 survey of top 20 global ‘green game changers’.
